How we work together
It starts with planning.
A builder might know they’re going to be constructing a building, but without a plan they don’t know if it has to be a townhouse or a skyscraper. The same goes for designers. We have to know your goals and understand your expectations for this thing we’re going to create for you, and it’s our responsibility to ask the right questions to get the information we need. Over the years we’ve perfected and refined this planning process to get the very best results for many different types of clients and projects. We call it BluePrinting and it allows us to do a better job, faster, and with fewer mistakes or misunderstandings.
Just like how an architect draws up a blueprint for a building, BluePrinting is where we get to know you and your business, and translate all the relevant information into a strategy for moving forward. This work varies in length (and depth) depending on the job but invariably, BluePrinting and the resulting BluePrint document will:
Provide clarity for your team and ours, generating positive momentum for the project.*
Orient everyone to their roles and responsibilities for a more efficient workflow.
Refresh our memory of what’s been discussed and keep all stakeholders focused on the bigger vision.
Reveal aspects of the project that you might not have considered or ways to streamline certain components that will end up making the project more cost effective.
Assist with planning future projects for a more coordinated and consistent brand-building effort.
Result in an outcome for the project that meets (or exceeds) your expectations.
*WARNING: Positive momentum and clarity of vision have been known to infect multiple other aspects of your business.
Because a good plan ensures good design.
Once we’ve established a solid gameplan, we can get into the actual construction of the project. That’s when we’re creating the polished visuals and communication pieces that will convey the important messages and ideas that you want to get across. This phase of the project involves further discussion as we submit concepts for your review and revise as needed. We solicit your feedback throughout and provide our input too. Since we’ve already discussed a lot of things in advance this tends to be quite fun and efficient.
Well-developed content is key to successful communications
We see design as an integral part of reinforcing your unique message and positioning, so our work together tends to be very collaborative when it comes to content. For new collateral, we may be creating visual assets or writing copy before we ever get into producing the finished media. In cases where you provide copy and media in near final form, such as for a website or printed report, our job is to reinforce your message through appropriate visual presentation. In any case, there will be some back-and-forth as we work together to bring your ideas and information into form for presentation.
We follow up with education and technical support.
Once you have your materials in hand, we like to make sure you know how to use them. For websites, we provide a handbook and live training session on the website’s content management system (CMS) so you feel confident about making updates to your site and have a manual to reference when you need it. After we build templates for e-mail communications or digital documents, we provide training on how to use them. We want you to have some self-sufficiency with the communication tools we create for you. And we’re here to assist if you have questions.
